Frequently Asked Questions

ASP student staff are made up of Academic Success Coaches, Drop-in Tutors, Exam Review Tutors, and Student Assistants. We offer a variety of subjects and specialized positions. 

Learn more about the different positions:

You must be a UW undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at least part time (at least 6 credits for undergraduate students, 5 credits for graduate students, 2 credits for PhD candidates), through employment length. We typically hire for the full academic year with a commitment of Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters.

Check out the position specific pages and read through the position descriptions to see what the required qualifications are for each position. For CLUE positions, there are required courses you must have completed. You must pass the course, but there is no minimum GPA requirement for the core courses. 

 

You may apply to only one position. Review the available roles and select the position that best aligns with your interests. If you submit more than one application, we will take your most recent application submission as your final application.

Our pay rates (hourly) are as follows:

Pay rates are for the 2025-2026 academic year. They are subject to adjustment under the UAW 4121 contract guidelines.

ASP hires the majority of positions in spring quarter for the next academic year. Positions will be posted on Handshake and linked on our Work with Us website. 

After the application window has passed, applicants will be notified if they receive an interview. Interviews will be conducted during mid-spring quarter. All applicants will be contacted with an update of their status by the end of May. 

On occasion, we open positions outside of this hiring cycle typically in the summer or throughout the year when needed. They will be posted on our Work with Us website and on Handshake.
