Community Standards

Welcome to CLUE! We are looking forward to supporting you on your educational journey. Please review the following Community Standards for both students and tutors to learn more about what you can expect when you enter our CLUE space. 

AI expectations

Student Expectations

• Come prepared with all necessary materials (i.e. class notes, assignment guidelines, textbooks, writing drafts, calculator, etc.).  
• Be an active participant in the tutoring session. It is recommended that you prepare a list of questions or topics that you would like to discuss with your tutor.  
• Ask clarifying questions and consider suggestions before moving forward.  
• Attempt your homework on your own before bringing it to a tutor to help; a tutor cannot do your work for you. Be mindful of UW's Academic Misconduct Policy.
• Be patient, considerate, and use courteous language. Make sure to email us at clue@uw.edu or let the Front Desk know if you have problems accessing the meeting. 
• Tutors may have learned certain subjects from a different instructor or through a different method. They will work to understand how you have learned but ask that you, as the student, be open to learning other methods.
• Engage in professional, academically relevant conversations while using CLUE services. Students will not ask for or exchange private information with CLUE staff. Be mindful of UW's Behavioral Miscounduct Policy.

Tutor expectations

• Tutors will be punctual, supportive, and professional.
• They will answer questions to the best of their abilities. If tutors do not know an answer, they may try to work through it with you and/or refer you to another tutor. 
• Tutors will encourage you, as the student, to be an independent learner and develop problem-solving skills outside of CLUE. Our goal is that you gain the confidence to solve problems and concerns after meeting with a tutor.
• Tutors will work with students for about 20-45 minutes (depending on the subject and amount of students still waiting to be served), helping them understand the concepts brought to tutoring with the purpose of teaching the students how to work through problems on their own. 
• Because this is a drop-in center, tutors will move on to helping other students after 30-45 minutes, while encouraging students to work on the problem at hand independently for at least 20 minutes and then come back for further clarification. This is never meant to turn away students; it is simply to ensure we are supporting all students who come to CLUE as we serve on average 150 students a night.
• Offer a positive attitude and be respectful of your diverse perspective and learning style 
• Tutors will not complete or correct your homework, projects, take-home exams, or labs. Tutors will provide useful comments and suggestions to help foster independent learning. 
• Our tutors will not provide line-by-line correcting, editing, proofreading, or translating. We encourage you to prioritize if you have multiple questions or topics you want to cover in a session. 
• We ask tutors not to try to predict what your grade will be on your assignments and cannot speak for your instructor. Please ask your professor for any clarification on an assignment or a grade.
